“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” Buddha
I love this quote and constantly marvel over its truth. Being happy is not a competition it is a collaboration. When you are around happy people, you can’t help but have some of that good mood rub off on you. Happiness is contagious and research shows that our relationships with others may be what matters most.
The findings of Nicholas Christakis have shown that having a happy friend who lives within a mile of you seems to increase the probability that you will be happy as well. Like the ripple effect, these positive emotions can continue to be passed from person to person for 3 degrees. YOUR happiness can be spread to friends of friends.
When you think that there may only be 6 degrees of separation between any of us, the fact that we can influence 3 degrees of that web is pretty remarkable.
Use your happiness to light up the lives of the people around you and choose to spend time with people who are happy to light your candle in return when an unexpected puff of wind blows it out.
